Sadie, I agree that by giving electric car owners money for their purchases it will allow them to support the environment in more ways, but why do you think it is important for the government to support electric cars? Why do you think electric cars are a good investment for the government?

I think that the government shouldn't pay for people to buy electric cars because there are other things the government could be using the 7.5 billion dollars over the next 10 years for promoting electric cars, for things such as schools or help pay off china the 1.3 trillion dollars we owe them.On the other hand some may say that electric cars are better because they are good for the environment. However, The Journal of Industrial Ecology published a report that found that manufacturing an electric car puts double the amount of carbon dioxide into the air than building gas cars does. Carbon dioxide is believed to cause climate change which can hurt the environment. And, the electricity for these cars comes from burning oil and other fuels. Plus, their batteries contain toxic chemicals. Environmental benefits of electric cars are minimal.

I agree that there is a lot of research that shows that electric cars do not actually help "clean" the environment and perhaps are not the best way to reduce carbon dioxide. Given all of the environmental issues, is there a technology or "program" that you would recommend the government investing the 7.5 billion dollars into?

I think that the US government should not pay people to buy electric cars. People think that electric cars don't pollute the environment. But really, they aren't. Manufacturing an electric car puts twice the amount of carbon dioxide into the air than manufacturing a gas car does. People think that carbon dioxide causes climate change, which can hurt the environment. Also, the electricity used for the cars comes from burning oil and other fuels. The batteries contain toxic chemicals. This proves that the environment is actually polluted by electric cars. The government will spend 7.5 billion dollars over the next 10 years promoting electric cars and it won't do much. They could use it for people who don't have homes or are starving. Or they could use it for schools.

You have some very convincing research and arguments against the government subsidizing electric cars. Given that research shows our current vehicles emit carbon dioxide and led to air pollution, what do you think the solution to air pollution is? Do you think the government should be invest money in the solution, or should the car dealers and consumers be responsible for paying for the new technology?

i think that the goverment should not pay for people to buy the electric cars beacuse they are not ideal for familys. like it said in the artical the eletronic cars are to small and unreliable for children. also children can coast from 240000 dollars to 340000 dollars so that and the car exspense is pricing with this i think that the goverment should stop paying people to buy eletronic car

I think the U.S government should pay for people to buy electric cars because it causes less pollution, then the government gives money to the people that buy electric cars as a thank you for going green. Also, if oil usage was limited then the U.S wouldn't have to worry as much if it was hard for other countries to get oil to give to the U.S. In addition, when gas burns it could change the climate to make it hotter on Earth. This means that electric cars are a more alternative, cheaper, and less polluted kind of car.

I think the government should pay people to buy electric cars. By paying car makers to sell electric cars they are in a way improving the environment. If everyone went green by buying electric cars there would be a huge difference in the pollution even if it was just our country doing it. We especially in Milwaukee need this improvement. Some people might say to use the money for schools but if we don't fix the pollution kids might start inhaling nasty chemicals, making them sick. Since we are not getting gasoline from places like China we are thereby enhancing the security of the U.S. economy. Car makers are also improving the technology of electric cars. They are making them charge faster, and drive farther on a single charge. They are also going to be cheaper than the older models. I also think that yes this is a great way to get people to go green, but they should stop paying people after this grows bigger and start charging fees like owners of gasoline-powered cars have to pay.

Having the Gov. support the sales of electric cars is a good and helpful thing for our community and our environment
