I think that they are searching for gold, and the machine was a gold finder. Also it was most likely that it was taken during the gold rush.

That is a good thought, but I do think you could have expanded it and added more. But it's a good original thought, though!

I think this is a picture of people that are panning for gold. I think this is by a mountain because there is a big hill right behind them. I think this picture was taken during the California gold rush. this relates to the westward expansion because during that time the California gold rush was going on.

This picture looks like it was taken when the pioneers were searching for gold. I think they were building a machine to find some gold and then some more gold. I think this picture was at a very Rocky River or pond. Also, I think they were also moving west. This picture relates to Westward Expansion because they are trying to find gold from the California Gold Rush. This picture was taken in the 1800 hundreds.

I really like how you explained what was happening in the photo, and I can tell that you really thought this response out! Maybe you could have made the fact that they were searching for gold by saying they were panning for gold to make it more specific, but other than that, your response explained everything else very clearly!

I think this is a picture of a family panning for gold. I think this picture was take in California because that's where most of the gold was found. I think this picture was during the gold rush in the spring or early-mid fall because the plants in the background look like they are almost dead and the father is wearing long sleeves. This relates to the Westward Expansion because during that time, many people were surging West to strike it rich.

California gold rush. I think these people went to California to mine for the gold to strike it rich. I think this picture is at a mine where they panned or mined for gold to strike it rich. I think this picture was after John Sutter found gold and many came. I think this picture was taken in the summer because they are all wearing hats to shield their faces from the sun. I think this relates to westward Expansion by, when people moved to California for the gold rush they would often settle in California.

Dawson, I agree with you because many people went to California to find gold. Did you notice that it looks like they had to dig a big hole to start mining? Nice job remembering the thing about John Sutter.

I liked how you used your knowledge of other things in the Westward Expansion in your paragraph(How the picture was after John Sutter found gold and many people came to find some for themselves. I also liked how you said it was taken in summer and used the clues to figure out what season it was during. Awesome Job!

I think this is a picture of four pioneers trying to go gold mining. I think it is either winter or fall because it looks damp and they are wearing long sleeves. It also looks like they are standing on a cliff by a gold mine. I notice that they have pails, shovels, and pick axes in their hands, or around them. This relates to the West Ward expansion because pioneers all over the country came to dig up some gold and strike it rich.

Great point about the gold digging, have you thought about how the children have rolled up sleeves and why they would have rolled up sleeves in winter or fall. Great job!

I think this picture looks like a family trying to find gold. Since they are wearing a combination of long and short sleeves, and the bushes & trees are leaf-less, and also there is no snow, I'd guess it's fall. This looks like part of the Gold Rush, since that's what they appear to be looking for (and since the picture title was Gold Mining before the site changed a bit). This was a huge part of westward expansion because that is what drew a lot of people westward.

It looks like family of pioneers are found gold from California after gold rush news broke out to the pubic I think around the time Mexico won a war in January 24 1848. I think the object in the picture is a gold mine as when I think that only finds gold also the pioneer family is digging for gold I know this because they all have shovels and are pointed at the ground to my Brains that tells me that they are shoveling most likely to everyone how reads this then looks at the picture I think that they will see it too. I’m thinking that they are family because they dress the same way and also they are pretty close by each other which is making me think that they are a family

I think in this picture the people are pioneers digging for gold. I think this because the men are in the river with their shovels. One women is standing there dressed up like a pioneer. I think those pioneers are trying to be hopeful and finding gold so they can be rich and make some money.

I think two men and two women are looking at the camera. I think some of them are happy, and some are not. This photo was taken during the California gold rush because they have mining hoes. Also in the picture they have a lot of mining equipment. It looks like it was taken during the day. This relates to the westward expansion because at one point people moves west to look for gold.

I think that this picture was taken during the California gold rush. It looks to me that these four people could be panning for gold. I think that this must be in California, because if it was the California gold rush, it would have to be. I also think that they might be a family or friends from the way they are standing so close comfortably. The gold rush relates to the westward expansion, because many people moved west to California just to strike it rich.

I think that they are ready to get some gold and it's probably almost summer because the boy kids have their sleeves rolled up, this relates to the westward expansion because people in the west are surrounded by gold and they dig for gold a lot.

I think this picture in the 1820's to 1830's in fall or spring. This picture has four people, possibly,a husband, wife, and their two son's. It looks like they are doing yard work with shovels and other tools. In the background it looks like big shrubs that are overgrown with big rocks or boulders. I think this relates to westward expansion because it was probably a family looking for gold when the California gold rush happened.

I think this was taken in the summer because the grass is green and long. I think this is a family is panning for gold and trying to strike it rich. I think this photo was taken in California because that is where John Sutter discovered some gold and that is where a lot of people went mining. I think they have been working for a while because they are slouched over and look very tired. This relates to the westward expansion because it shows many people worked really hard to try and find gold, and because it shows how people mined back in the mid 1800's.

I think this is a picture of four people making a little boat in summer to go find a place to look for gold. I am thinking that this must have been taken in the summer of 1848 because that is the time period when the gold rush occurred. Another reason I feel that this picture is of the gold rush is the pioneers are holding big shovels and wood that they are what looks to be building something. I see they are not wearing the fanciest clothes, (which supports my reasoning they are going to look for gold). Also, when they dig for the gold, it is most likely that they will be getting dirty. This picture relates to Westward Expansion because the gold rush was happening in the time period pioneers were traveling west. In fact, the gold rush was one of the main reasons settlers were traveling west. This is my thinking of what this picture must be about.

I think that four people possibly one girl and three boys are mining for gold. I think this photo was taken on or in front of some sort of mountain or hill I think this because in the background the grass seems to slant upward. I think that this is during the California gold rush because they have shovels and other digging materials. I also think this was after a long time of working because the materials are strewn all over the ground. I think this photo was captured in the late 1840’s or early 1850’s. This relates to Westward Expansion because they are trying to find gold during the California gold rush.

I think this picture shows four people gold mining in California during the gold rush. I think this picture takes place during the California gold rush because it looks like the people in this picture are mining for gold because in the back of the tool that they are using for gold mining it looks like there is gold. This relates to the westward expansion because the California gold rush took place during the westward expansion also some people came to California during the westward expansion and then started mining for gold.

I think I'll leave a fun-fact that may help some people that haven't posted yet, but they aren't mining, digging, or panning for gold, there sluicing for it! Try searching that up when you guys get home, and try to use that in your responses to this picture (when you know what it is)!
